Nurturing Yourself and Your Inner Child

Nurturing Yourself and Your Inner Child

In the whirlwind of our fast-paced lives, it is easy to get caught up in the chaos and get lost. The demands of the outside world create feelings of overwhelm, disconnectedness and emotional drain. But there might be a way to find a little peace and love whenever you need it. Let’s talk about how you can tap into this nurturing energy.

Getting Grounded

First things first, take a deep breath. Close your eyes if you can, and just feel your body. Your feet on the ground, the rhythm of your breathing, the tension in your body, just be aware of what is, acknowledge what you sense and feel.

Finding That Nurturing Vibe

Imagine now being wrapped up in a warm, loving energy. This can be a maternal or grandmotherly energy, an animal or whoever you want to be held by. Maybe it feels like a big, cosy blanket of support where all is well. Do you feel overwhelmed, or disconnected? Just wanting to cry or to be angry,…? This is the space where you can express that, where you can be and feel as you do in this moment, without judgement, but with love and support around you. In this nurturing space, there is no need to hide or pretend. You can show everything because you know you are safe, you are listened to and you are loved.

Your Inner Child Needs Some Love

Or imagine your inner child, the part of you that holds all your emotions and memories, especially the vulnerable things. How does it feel at this moment? Imagine holding your inner child and giving it that warm, loving energy, like a caring parent. You are there to listen, to be, and to provide a safe space for whatever comes up. Maybe it doesn’t want a hug? That’s ok too and you can just be there for it.

Whenever you want, you can return to this nurturing place. It’s like a little sanctuary that you keep with you whenever you need support, the inner chatter is negative and you need a hug and you want to feel surrounded by love and understanding.

I love these moments of self-care. Sometimes I want to sink into the arms of a nurturing energy or sometimes I feel that my inner child has taken on too much or has been triggered and I want to be there for it, to give it love and space. Space to express what is bothering it at the moment.

At first, it may not be easy to hold the space for the emotions, because problem-solving seems so much easier. But it doesn’t work that way, and it doesn’t help to validate the child’s feelings, your feelings. Many ‘adults’ want to fix things, but it’s actually a distraction not to have to deal with it, because it’s hard to be confronted with intense feelings and still be present. Most of us have never been taught or modelled how to do that. But it is very beautiful to realise that being there, observing and holding the space is so immensely healing and rewarding, and creates connectedness.

I created an audio with my voice which supports you tapping into the nurturing energy or the feeling of being nurtured. Please feel free to listen to the audio.
